Dr. Hickman has been in Private Practice since 1984 and performs a wide range of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery procures for the face and body. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and secondarily, by the American Board of Surgery. He received his Plastic Surgery training under D. Ralph Millard Jr., MD, the innovator of many cleft lip procedures, and pioneer in Plastic Surgery of the 20^th century.

Dr. Hickman served as Chairman for the Plastic Surgery Division of Long Beach Memorial Hospital in 1988 and 2000, as well as Vice Chairman of the Surgery Department in 1998. He was the attending Plastic Surgeon for the Long Beach Children's Clinic from 1986 to 1992. He was voted as one of the top doctors in Plastic Surgery for Loss Angeles in 1999. He is currently writing texts and teaching courses on chemical peels and spider vein treatment to skin care professionals including Physicians and Registered Nurses in the field of Aesthetic Medicine, an exciting new subspecialty.

He has published three works in 2010 and 2011: The use of a circular scar breast lift with and without breast implants, a circular scar breast reduction series, and a perspective on chemical peels in the Asian patient. He has completed chapters on Chemical Peels, Cosmeceuticals, and Spider Vein Sclerotherapy in a textbook he is currently editing, entitled: Medical Aesthetic Practice. His interests are in minimal scar breast surgery, surgical enhancements of the aging smile, facial de-aging, body contouring, and chemical resurfacing of the skin.
